Results from the Water Footprint Assessment applied to the Porce river basin, Colombia, show that the basin has no blue water stress, but it does undergo significant levels of green water scarcity (competition for different uses of land and green water resources) and water pollution in some of Porce’s subbasins.
In 2013, Good Stuff International was contracted by the Government of Kenya to develop an irrigation master plan for the Kenyan part of Daua river. In the process of developing the Irrigation master plan, we have worked closely with local stakeholders and used state of the art GIS, remote sensing and hydrological modelling technologies and expertise of local and international experts from The Netherlands, Switzerland and the United States.
We founded the Masterplan on an ecosystem approach to the water resources of Daua river and the irrigation development in the arid region of North East Kenya. The Masterplan is such that it provides local people in Daua catchment with better and sustainable access to water for cultivation and livestock and next to that it caters to environmental issues. The plan was delivered to NIB in May 2014. Subsequently we supported the Kenya government in the tripartite discussion between Kenya, Ethiopia and Somalia on the management and development of the Daua water resources.
The mainstream banking sector is not reforming fast enough. It is time to move your money to responsible banks that really serve a greener and more social society.
Today, our governments in the BaselIII committee have watered down the capital requirements of banks under continued pressure of bank lobbyists. This means that banks need to hold less cash reserves to cover for unexpected losses. It is not difficult to understand that less reserve increases the risk of defaults by banks and with this the risk that society will face future bail outs of banks. While in the short run keeping larger reserves will have economic implications, in the long run it will ensure a healthier banking sector that better serves society.
