Customer: Equestrian centre Oliva Nova, Spain

Objective: To determine the green, blue and grey Water Footprint generated by the daily activities of the equestrian centre and to defie concrete response strategies to improve water use and reduce water consumption.

How we did it: A complete water footprint assessment was conducted taking into account the water consumption and pollution generated by the different types of activities in which water is involved either in the field or in the facilities and stalls. Additionally, the green and blue water footprint of the vegetable surfaces was assessed  to provide useful information to improve irrigation efficiency. We used data from the centre about number of horses and visitors in tournaments, types of activities carried out in the facilities and stalls and local data on climate, as well as water treatment efficiency. We used information from river basin legislation on norms for pollutants according to the Water Framework Directive (WFA) to assess the environmental and legal impact of the grey water footprint.
